When discussing the topic of Vampires, most people relate them to somber, dramatic movies. Think of Twilight or The Vampire Diaries. In both examples, the vampires and their acquaintances are faced with grave dilemmas that significantly impact their daily lives. Edward Cullen tried to expose himself because he knew he couldn't be with Bella as a human, and Stephan Salvatore ended up sacrificing his life at the end of the series to protect everyone. Thus, one could imagine my surprise when realizing that Matt's blog on comedy was a movie about vampires. Having not seen the movie myself, I subsequently looked up some clips from the movie to get a better grasp of the movie. The scenes I did watch, the Basghetti Scene, the Slaves Scene, and the Werewolves not Swear Wolves Scene, all show strong evidence of relief and incongruity humor. In the Basghetti Scene, the vampires invited some mortals into their house for dinner. They then proceeded to play tricks on the man, whereas the man was not amused in the slightest. The man gets up to leave and subsequently realizes that all the doors are locked, and he is trapped. He becomes irritated and then opens a door to see one of his companions being sucked dry by one of the other vampires. He attempts to escape again, this time being chased by the vampires. One instance in this scene which I thought to be very funny was when the man slammed a door on one of the vampires, the vampire continues to pound and try and open the door, but right when the man says, "Fuck off," the pounding stops. Later, the man finally escapes the house but is then attacked by a Voldemort-looking vampire. The Vampires of the house see this, and then feel bad for the man. I believe these both to portray relief and incongruity humor because, with the door, one would not expect a vampire to stop his chase due to a mere mortal saying, "Fuck off." With the outdoors part the vampires being sad for the man being captured by another vampire and presumably eaten is an excellent example of incongruity humor because they were attempting to do the same thing. This movie has me intrigued and I hope to be able to watch the movie in full soon.

  1. It reminds me of a scene in Aliens when they tell the marines they cannot use their guns. They say, what are we going to use, harsh language? Turns out that can be pretty effective!

  2. I like how you compared the movie that Matthew picked to Vampire Diaries and Twilight. That was a good comparison. Both of the movies very similar.
