Humor is
an essential part of living. Whether it be deadpan humor, memes, comedians, or
something completely random which somehow generates a laugh, humor helps
lighten the pressures of everyday society. For me, I honestly don’t know what
my type of humor is. I find some things funny and fail to see the humor in
other things that people can find funny. On my twitter, I see a lot of posts
that while can be viewed as stupid, inevitably make myself laugh. While with my
friends, simply just talking to them can lead to us all unable to speak, tears
streaming down our faces. Even making fun of each other would generate faces
contorted in laughter. Coming into this class, I am excited to see what makes
my fellow classmates laugh, yet nervous to share what I find funny. Even though
I tried to pinpoint what I find funny earlier, I know that it does not
accurately describe my sense of humor. When thinking of “funny” shows I have
watched in the past, only few come to mind. “The Big Bang Theory,” “That 70’s Show,”
and “Big Mouth” are the only that I can easily think of. These shows had
somewhat different senses of humor, but yet I found them all to be funny. How
am I able to explain why I found these distinctly different shows funny might
be a challenge to me. Other concerns come to mind as well, especially thinking
about when I have to present a video I find funny. Should I appeal to the
masses and make it funny for them, or should I just stick with something I know
is funny? Can I even find a good video I find to be humorous? How can I analyze
it without simply saying, “I find this funny,”? Despite my concerns, I am
excited for this course to learn more about my classmates and to get to know
myself by attempting to find out what I really do find funny and why.
I could have sworn I left a comment on this post. I think I said something to the effect of, we all are nervous to share our sense of humor. But it's liberating to do so, and will help give you a sense of what you really like and what makes you unique.
